JAYS DAYS FOR HORIZONS

Sunday, August 21, Opera Bob’s – We conclude our Jays Days series with a special Sunday afternoon event as the Jays take on the A’s at 4pm. Packed for Brett Lawrie’s debut at JAYS DAYS V last Friday, Jays fans have flocked Opera Bob’s this summer for a genuine baseball atmosphere and a lot of good times.

To properly wrap up the Jays Days series we’re planning a big party to say thanks to all the amazing fans that have made these events a great success. To that point we are collaborating with a great cause to make this event truly special!

JAYS DAYS FOR HORIZONS

To give a little history, on May 29, the Jays Days crew held the 1st annual Homers for Horizons charity softball tournament in support of Horizons for Youth, a 35-bed youth shelter dedicated to helping homeless and at-risk youth. The event raised over $15,000 for the small westToronto shelter.

Recently, an opportunity became available to the shelter to take a group of youth on a canoe trip to Northern Edge Algonquin and the Jays Days crew was contacted to see if we could help. “It’s a youth retreat that focuses on leadership and team building skills and an amazing chance for some of our clients to do something they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do,” said Lisa Walker, Case Manager, Horizons for Youth. “The trip will cost $3000, not including transportation and we are working effortlessly to raise the money.”

To support this amazing cause, we’ll offer Homers for Horizons Combos for $20.

The deal includes: 1 pint, 1 hot dog and a ticket to the final Jays home game of the season on Thursday, September 22. We are purchasing a Jays Days section and you can expect to see all your favourite Opera Bob’s bartenders, vendors, hot dog makers and maybe even Opera Bob in the flesh!

5 from every combo donated to Horizons for Youth.

Along with the hot dogs, popcorn and PBR found at all Jays Days, fans will have the also have the opportunity to participate in blue jays trivia, a 50-50 draw and a raffle.

JAYS DAYS V: The Debut of Brett Lawrie

Brett Lawrie debuts tonight for the Jays

JAYS DAYS V: Brett Lawrie Debut
Re-creating the stadium experience
(minus the overpriced beer) while the boys are away

Friday, August 5, Opera Bob’s – Arguably the most anticipated prospect in Blue Jays history, Brett Lawrie makes his major league debut tonight in Baltimore. Opera Bob’s will be packed with baseball fans as the Jays continue their strong second half.

As usual, Jays fans will be treated to the game on the big screen, full audio, delicious dogs, popcorn and cheap beer.

“For fans who long for the stadium experience, even when the Jays are on the road, this Dundas and Ossington pub is fast becoming the city’s game-watching hub. Opera Bob’s bi-weekly fan meetup is arguably more fun than the ballpark: The game is broadcast on the big screen, Buck Martinez’s commentary booms from the PA system and the menu features hot dogs, Cracker Jack and beer straight from a soft cooler.” The Grid.

Recently named as one of the ‘four clues the city is catching baseball fever,’ Jays Days is leading Toronto baseball fans on a charge back to the early-90s glory days.

“For fans who long for the stadium experience, even when the Jays are on the road, this Dundas and Ossington pub is fast becoming the city’s game-watching hub. “If the sheer number of Blue Jays baseball caps you see in this city is any indication, it’s no coincidence the Jays are gaining popularity among the downtown Toronto crowd,” said Jays Days organizer, Kevin Kennedy. “Though we’re definitely helping, the fans were already on their way. The cheap tickets and casual pace make it attractive to the students, musicians and artists who love drinking beer, live downtown and also happen to love sports.”

With the summer heating up, fans can enjoy a cold free beer in a $5 souvenir cup on The Jerry Howarth Patio and hear the game on the Fan590.

“Show me another bar in Toronto where I don’t have to request to have the sound on,” said Jays Days fan Fergal Murphy. “It smells like popcorn in here, there’s some guy walking around selling beer and peanuts and the game’s on a big screen. It’s a no-brainer if you ask me.”

JAYS DAYS II: The Battle at Busch Stadium

Friday, June 24, Opera Bob’s — The Jays Days series continues when the Blue Jays conclude their interleague road trip with a three-gamer against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The hugely successful launch party on June 17 cemented Opera Bob’s as the go-to bar for baseball fans in Toronto as patrons were treated to an authentic ballpark experience in the comfort of a local pub.

The Jerry Howarth Patio will also make its debut at Jays Days II as lovers of the outdoors will now be able to listen to play-by-play on the patio. “There she goes!”

Bob the Vendor will once again be selling whatever he can fit in his cooler.

“You can’t beat this atmosphere,” said Jays fan Brendan Kennedy. “High-fiving after homeruns, big cheers after every strikeout. I mean there was even a guy walking around with a soft cooler selling cold beers, nachos and cracker jacks.

“It was more fun than going to a game at the Rogers Centre, and easier on the pocket.”

Big screen baseball, full audio, $1 hotdogs, peanuts, popcorn, and ice cream bars and a crowd of baseball fans are some of the things you can expect at Jays Days.

“When Adam Lind homered to put the Jays ahead the bar just erupted,” said co-owner Will Kopplin. “I haven’t seen people enjoy themselves like that watching a Jays game at a bar in a very long time.”
