JAYS DAYS III: Cleveland

Thursday, July 7, Opera Bob’s – The Jays Days series makes it’s first Thursday night appearance of the season when the Jays take on the Central division leading Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. With a 2-0 record, Jays Days looks to extend its winning streak prior to its All Star Game bash on July 12.

Named as one of “four clues the city is catching baseball fever,” Jays Days is leading the charge back to the Blue Jays.

“For fans who long for the stadium experience, even when the Jays are on the road, this Dundas and Ossington pub is fast becoming the city’s game-watching hub. Opera Bob’s bi-weekly fan meetup is arguably more fun than the ballpark: The game is broadcast on the big screen, Buck Martinez’s commentary booms from the PA system and the menu features hot dogs, Cracker Jack and beer straight from a soft cooler.” The Grid, Thursday June 30, 2011.

“If the sheer number of Blue Jays baseball caps you see in this city is any indication, it’s no coincidence the Jays are gaining popularity among the downtown Toronto crowd,” said Jays Days organizer, Kevin Kennedy. “Though we’re definitely helping, the fans were already on their way. The cheap tickets and casual pace make it attractive to the students, musicians and artists who love drinking beer, live downtown and also happen to love sports.”

With the summer heating up, fans can enjoy a cold free beer in a $5 souvenir cup on The Jerry Howarth Patio and hear the game on the Fan590.

“Show me another bar in Toronto where I don’t have to request to have the sound on,” said Jays Days fan Fergal Murphy. “It’s smells like popcorn in here, there’s some guy walking around selling beer and peanuts and the game’s on a big screen. It’s a no-brainer if you ask me.”
